Зараз я згадала, що залишила неосвітленої одну дуже цікаву тему, що характеризує цей час-час перебудови. Це рекет. 

Ще до того, як я заснувала підприємства, я стала придивлятися до знайомих бізнесменів-початківців і цікавитися яким же чином у них влаштована охорона. Адже я брала на себе відповідальність за безпеку за картини художників. Тому це питання було одним із найважливіших. Але чомусь нікого із цих бізнесменів не охороняла міліція. І тут мені пояснили, що існує таке поняття як рекет, чи інакше можна сказати – охорона. Одна моя гарна знайома була пов'язана з цим світом, вона й порадила мені до когось звернутися. Звичайно, було страшно, незважаючи на те, що на вигляд це були звичайні, хоч і відмінні від усієї людської маси панове, але від них виходив якась особлива хвиля агресії. У той час, коли батьки нашого міста та інші керівники займалися звичайним, як сьогодні модно говорити «дерибаном» і при цьому прикидалися порядними людьми, люди, які представляли цей напрямок, не приховували своєї професії. При цьому вони мали порядок і вони дійсно відповідали за те, за що бралися. І ось до галереї прикріпили людину куратора, спеціально підібрали дуже гарну молоду людину, щоб не лякати відвідувачів. Цікаво було те, що мистецтво їх цікавило, іноді можна було заплатити замість грошей картиною, а потім сума її вартості покривала наші витрати на рік або на два. Якщо не було можливості оплатити їх послуги, нас терпляче чекали, але ніколи не було жодних лякаючих обставин. Загалом цей досвід не був сумним. Інше можна було сказати про податкову інспекцію, але не стану. Галерея працювала, і всі робили свою справу.

Even before I founded the enterprises, I began to look closely at my acquaintances, beginning businessmen, and wonder how they organized security. After all, I took responsibility for the safety of the artists' paintings. Therefore, this question was one of the most important. But for some reason, none of these businessmen were guarded by the police. And then they explained to me that there is such a thing as racketeering, or in other words - security. One of my good friends was connected with this world, and she advised me who to contact. Of course, it was scary, despite the fact that in appearance they were ordinary, although different from the rest of the human masses, but some special wave of aggression emanated from them. At the time when the fathers of our city and other leaders were engaged in ordinary, as it is fashionable to say today, "carve-ups" and at the same time pretended to be decent people, people representing this direction did not hide their profession. With all this, they had order and they were really responsible for what they took on. And so a curator was assigned to the gallery, a very handsome young man was specially selected so as not to frighten visitors. It was interesting that they were also interested in art, sometimes you could pay with a painting instead of money, and then the amount of its cost covered our expenses for a year or two. In the event that there was no way to pay for their services, they patiently waited for us, but there were never any frightening circumstances. In general, this experience was not sad. Something else could be said about the tax office, but I will not. The gallery worked, and everyone did their job.
